The Baltic States are situated along the East Sea (or Baltic Sea). From north to south: Estinia, Latvia and Lithuania.
The countries have been dominated in the past by several other countries and that is one of the reasons that they have a very rich history. There is infuence, specially in the architecture, from Germany, Poland, Scandinavia and Russia. In 1991 the Baltic States got their independance again after a long period of Soviet occupation. In 2004 the countries became a member of the EU and since then the countries have been developing rapidly.
But fortunately there is no mass tourism yet and this makes the Baltic States really attractive to spend your holiday.
In the countryside you will find beautiful landscapes, wildlife and nature and many medieval towns. You can make adventures trips and cicletours but also relax and enjoy the space and silence.
The capital cities are another story. They have become very attractive city break destinations. Specially Riga is a sparkling city and often called "Paris of the north". It is a city full of culture, nightlife and beautiful squares with many restaurants and cafés.

So.. you really have to combine your stay in an holiday house with a visit to one the capital cities!!
